Funny Religion

I remember hearing a fabulous talk by Daisetz Suzuki in Ascona, Swtzerland.  It was, I think, his first talk there at the Eranos Foundation, and here was this group of Europeans in the audience and there was this Japanese man (he was about ninety-0ne years old at the time), a Zen philosopher.  He stood with his hands on his sides and he looked at the audience and said, "Nature against God.  God against nature.  Nature against man.  Man against nature.  Man against God.  God against Man.  Very funny religion."

Joseph Campbell, as quoted in the Hero's Journey
